The Young Scholars Program brings together a group of sophomore and junior-level students to discover the lordship of Christ in all fields of academia. In the Fall semester, students participate in small seminar classes and discussions that endeavor to discover God's calling in an academic life. In the Spring semester, the Young Scholars join together in an honors-only section of the core course BIB 300.
Christian scholarship isn't just worldview analysis, and it′s not just working hard. It′s about notions of curiosity, imagination and wonder in the face of God′s creation-whether that′s for the engineer or the literature major or the soon-to-be stay-at-home mom or dad."Dr. Keith Martel, Professor of Higher Education
Program Focus
The Young Scholars Program encourages students to explore what it means to be a Christian scholar. What does the lordship of Christ mean for academic pursuits? How do you discover and remain faithful to your calling? You will seek answers to these questions in the Young Scholars Program as you dive into the readings, engage in discussions with fellow students and practice rigorous scholarship as you prepare a faith integration paper.
Cultural Opportunities
Attend professional productions, such as the Pittsburgh Opera, Ballet, Public Theater and more with fellow Honors students—at no cost. Previous cultural events can be viewed on the Honors Events page.
Honors Credit Benefit
Students are permitted to enroll in up to twenty credits at the full-time tuition rate during any semester that they are members of our three honors programs.
This program made me think about some of my fundamental beliefs, if they are good and right, and how and why I hold to them….I now feel more aware of some of the cultural, historical, and philosophical movements that have shaped my perspectives without me even realizing it.”
I really enjoyed having the individual major-themed book discussions at the beginning of the year as that was probably one of the first times I was able to learn how my career in science could and should be integrated with faith. This class formed a lot of essential foundations for the higher science classes I am in now as well as applied to other areas of life."
